FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Half-Marathon Charity Event a Success

Columbia, MO – October 9, 2008

Central Missouri Community Action was the proud recipient of funds raised for the 5th Wilson’s Half-Marathon Challenge hosted by the Columbia Track Club. On Sunday, October 5th, 350 individuals and 27 teams completed the 13.1 mile course that features the University of Missouri campus as well as MU Recreation and Grindstone Nature area trails. This year was the largest event since its founding, with a 40% increase in runners.  The competition was tight.  Matt Dirnbeck, Overall Male winner, finished at 1:17:53.12 while the Overall Female , Sarah Lee, finished at 1:31:18.52.  In total, 43 runners finished the race in under 1 hour, 35 minutes.  This means that the average mile for each of these runners was less than 7 minutes and 25 seconds!  With the challenges of hills and Columbia traffic, they proved their endurance and strength.

The event would not have been a success without the help from its sponsors and generous donations from businesses within the community. We would like to thank the following contributors for their support: Wilson’s Total Fitness, Starting Block, Boone County National Bank, Wal-Mart Super Center, Kilgore’s Pharmacy, B&B Bagels, CiCi’s Pizza, Coil Construction Company, Culligan Water Conditioning, Dixie Cream Donuts, Dr. Pepper-Seven Up Bottling, Hy-Vee, MO Cotton Exchange, Panera Bread Company, Papa Murphy’s, Papa Johns, Sbarro Italian Eatery, Socket Internet, and Tiger Ice Company.
